Spotlight – GHC Dietitians
March 30, 2026
At Group Health Centre (GHC), Registered Dietitians (RDs) support the health and well-being of individuals and families in our community by helping people make meaningful, lasting changes in their lives.
For many dietitians, the most rewarding part of their work goes well beyond nutrition science. It’s about working with patients as they build healthier relationships with food and celebrating the small but meaningful milestones along the way. Whether it’s a baby gaining weight, a child trying a new food for the first time, or a family taking their first steps toward healthier habits, these wins are often the moments that matter most.
As trained food and nutrition professionals, RDs are qualified to translate complex scientific, medical, and nutrition information into practical, everyday guidance. Their goal is to empower patients with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed food choices and build sustainable, healthy habits, always grounded in each person’s unique lifestyle, preferences, and goals.
At GHC, dietitians work closely with various interdisciplinary teams, including the Access Care Clinic (ACC), the Algoma Diabetes Education & Care (ADEC) Program, the Cardiac Rehab Program, the Primary Care Wellness Team, and primary care providers. This collaborative approach ensures patients receive comprehensive, coordinated care tailored to their individual needs.
“It’s very rewarding working with clients as part of a collaborative care team, helping them achieve their best energy and overall health through good, nutritious foods that they enjoy eating,” shares Christina Dunne, an RD who works with both GHC and ACC patients.
From personalized nutrition counselling to weight management support, dietitians partner with patients to set personal goals and create realistic, achievable plans. This individualized approach ensures that recommendations are not only evidence-based but also practical and fostering, supporting long-term success rather than quick fixes.
A key focus for GHC dietitians is chronic disease management. They support individuals living with conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, digestive disorders, and food allergies or intolerances. Through targeted nutrition strategies, dietitians help patients better manage symptoms, improve health outcomes, and enhance overall quality of life.
Beyond clinical care, GHC dietitians also provide practical, day-to-day support, helping patients navigate grocery shopping, understand food labels, and plan simple, nourishing meals. These everyday tools can make a lasting difference, empowering individuals and families to feel more confident and in control of their health.
Ultimately, the work of a dietitian is about more than food; it’s about connection, encouragement, and helping people feel their best, one step at a time.
To request a referral to speak with a dietitian at GHC, patients are encouraged to connect with their primary care provider.
