$200K ScotiaRISE Donation Enhances Paediatric Care at Group Health Centre
September 12, 2025
Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario – Group Health Centre (GHC) is proud to recognize and celebrate a transformative $200,000 donation from ScotiaRISE, Scotiabank’s social impact initiative, to support care and services in GHC’s Paediatrics Department.
The ScotiaRISE investment in GHC has directly enhanced healthcare for young patients and their families by acquiring essential paediatric medical equipment and redesigning waiting areas.
These advanced tools and equipment are enhancing diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care while increasing the department’s capacity to serve more children with greater accuracy and efficiency. The upgrades have contributed to better health outcomes for families across the region.
“Thanks to Scotiabank’s investment, our Paediatrics Department is better equipped to meet the changing needs of children in our community,” said Lil Silvano, GHC President & CEO. “This contribution strengthens paediatric care for years ahead, supporting the health of thousands of children annually and easing the concerns of families as they navigate critical moments.”
The newly renovated waiting areas feature interactive play stations designed to engage children and reduce pre-appointment anxiety. The calming design elements, such as playful lighting, nature-inspired artwork, and sensory-friendly details support those who may be prone to overstimulation in clinical settings. The result is a child-centred environment that is safe, supportive, and aimed at promoting both emotional well-being and physical health.
GHC wishes to thank and acknowledge the creative expertise behind the renovation, as well as everyone involved in the project who contributed to the overall execution and vision.
- Amelia Ritchie, owner of Paint and Décor Concepts, handled overall project management and described the work as a highlight of her artistic career.
- Melinda Lamming and Taylor Graham of Paint and Décor Concepts supported the initiative from concept to installation, combining professional expertise and parental insight.

- Carrie from Augie by Carrie, Resin Artist, created intricate layered resin floral forest scenes.

“As a pediatrician, I see firsthand how a welcoming environment and the right medical tools can comfort a child and ease their worries as well as those of their caregiver,” said Dr. Duffus, GHC Pediatrician. “The generous support of the ScotiaRISE program for new equipment and vital structural upgrades has created a space where our young patients can feel safe, cared for, and hopeful. On behalf of our patients and their families, thank you for making such a meaningful difference in their care and well-being.”
GHC sincerely thanks Scotiabank for their commitment to youth wellness and their belief in community-focused healthcare. Together, we are strengthening the foundation for the health and happiness of future generations.
